Using an audio output device to broadcast through the Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Education

Scenario:
You have a Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Education and you would like to broadcast music through the AP.
Ubiquiti will hopefully be adding this feature into software in the future but for now you can use the following method.

Required Equipment:

  • Smart device and audio device.  Note: I tested 2 different smart phones a Nexus 5 and a Meizu M3 note. The Nexus 5 worked fine, the Meizu would not pick up the audio from the iPod or PC and continued to use the internal microphone.
  • Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Education wireless access point.
  • A 4 pole AUX cable with microphone out (see picture below):

  • Standard AUX cable:
The most important part is the 4 pole AUX cable (the bottom cable with 3 black bands) for MIC out.

Step 1:
Adopt the Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Education access point into the latest version of the UniFi Controller.

Step 2:
Download Ubiquiti's "UniFi EDU" app to your smart device and connect that smart device to your UniFi network.

Step 3:
Open the "UniFi EDU" app and enter your UniFi Controller login credentials.

Step 4:
Connect the cables, plug the 4 pole plug into the smart device and aux plug into the music device.

Step 5:
Select Broadcast in the UniFi EDU app and the broadcast group that you would like to cast too. You should now be broadcasting audio from your audio device out the UAP-AC-EDU.

  1. Could you not just play music on the same phone as the one that is broadcasting by plugging the jumper cable into the splitter?
